REVIEW: WARUNG PRIMA KUNYIT @ SURIA KLCC SIGNATURES FOOD COURT

Love the taste of turmeric? You have arrived to the right place - Warung Prima Kunyit! Established in 2018, Warung Prima opened its first outlet in Sogo KL Department Store food court. In the same year, Warung Prima moved to Life Centre at Jalan Perak elevating to a full-fledged restaurant setup. In December 2020, a second outlet was opened in Suria KLCC Signatures Food Court.

Thanks to Suria KLCC, we had a golden opportunity to review the best-selling offerings from Warung Prima Kunyit recently.

Jom let’s find out what’s nice here!

I am sure most of you are quite familiar with the local ayam goreng kunyit fare from the food truck or pasar malam. Warung Prima Kunyit takes this street food and blast it up to the stratosphere, I kid you not!

The Warung Prima Kunyit is located at the newly renovated Signatures Food Court which has a total number of over 1,500 seats and  houses 23 food court outlets, 6 kiosks and 7 restaurants.

It is all about kunyit here, Ayam Goreng Kunyit, Sotong Goreng Kunyit, Ikan Kembung Goreng Kunyit and Nasi Lemak Kunyit. From the Original Kunyit menu, a variation is the signature dishes with salted egg flavouring namely the Salted Egg Ayam Kunyit and Salted Egg Sotong Kunyit. All dishes come with rice, eggs, vegetables and side servings of its specially made chili sauce and sambal.

And the winner goes too… The must-try Nasi Lemak Kunyit Ayam Berempah marinated with special herbs and spices.

While you stand in line and decide what to order, do check out Warung Prima Kunyit’s hand painted cartoon mural. It depicts a kampung-within-a-city drawn by a local artist. The story of the mural tells of Makcik Yum preparing the special herbs and spices for the Kunyit dishes and Abang Mi enjoying his meal so much he orders another.

Here it is.... Our Nasi Lemak Kunyit in all its glory!

The whole chicken leg is fried to perfection – juicy in the inside while maintaining its crispiness on the outside. The rice is fragrant, and lemak-y. Paired with the sambal and other condiments, this dish is absolutely wholesome, yummy dan satisfying! No wonder it has been the crowd’s favourite pick time after time!

Another crowd's favourite - the Salted Egg Sotong Kunyit

Creamy and luxurious salted egg sauce goes very well with the turmeric-seasoned squid and veggies. The sunny side up egg and kicap adds a beautiful favour that completes the meal.

Still have room for dessert? No matter how full you are, make some space in your tummy for the KiSS (Malaysia’s first Kunyit Soft Serve ice-cream). The savoury cold swirl of turmeric delight is topped with some crunchy bits of Ikan Bilis Kunyit & Peanuts. Yummy!

You might want to consider buying one or two bottles of the addictive Warung Prima Kunyit’s Ikan Bilis Kunyit & Peanuts (normally served with the Nasi Lemak Kunyit). Heed the warning on the bottle - 'Beware of yellow fingers!'

The verdict – Love, love, love it! The serving portion is worth the price you are paying for! You know that they are using only the finest and freshest ingredients when you can feel your tongue dancing to the wonderful taste of turmeric! Two thumbs up for Warung Prima Kunyit.
