CHILLI CON CARNE

 

Bought this pack of Colman's seasoning mix out of impulse while I was grocery shopping in Village Grocer, Avenue K. It is a spicy seasoning mix with chilli powder and cumin for the Mexican classic dish.


Ingredients (Serves 4)
  • 1 sachet Colman's chilli con carne seasoning mix
  • 400 grams lean minced beef
  • 2 medium onions chopped
  • 150 ml cold water
  • 400 grams can chopped tomatoes
  • 400 grams kidney beans drained
  • 1/2 red bell pepper
Method
  1. Brown the mince, onion and bell pepper in a saucepan. Drain off any excess fat.
  2. Blend the contents of the sachet with the water and add to the mince, along with tomatoes and kidney beans.
  3. Bring to the boil, stirring continuously. Reduce heat, cover and simmer for 20 minutes until thoroughly cooked.

Mix the Chilli Con Carne seasonings with 150ml of cold water. 

Fry the onion and bell pepper with the mince.


Cook the beef until it is brown.

Add the seasoning mixture

In go the kidney beans....

After adding the tomato, bring the mixture to a boil and then lower the heat and simmer for about 20mins.


Yay! It's done!

I sprinkle some parsley flakes for garnish. Best enjoyed with rice or bake potatoes!
